Dyslexia Research Study

I recently came across the following information on LD Online and wanted to share it with you.

Do you have a child with severe dyslexia? Are you willing to help improve instruction of children with learning disabilities by allowing them to participate in research studies? If so, consider joining the Dyslexia Research Registry. You can help improve lives for all children with dyslexia. You will also receive resources and referrals. The Dyslexia Research Registry, funded by the National Institute of Health is searching for families of children with reading difficulties that do not respond adequately to the best available instruction. Your child will be given a group of tests that will take 30 minutes. Data from that test alone will help contribute to the understanding of dyslexia. Then, your family will be contacted from time to time with offers to participate in other studies. For more information, please contact Dr. Megan Bakan at bakan@psy.fsu.edu.

I am interested in this myself and have just emailed Dr. Bakan to obtain more information. I'll let you know what I find out.

  1. Dear Friends,

I am connected with an organisation called The Learning People, who have launched a UK petition on the Downing Street website to reclassify dyslexia as a thinking style rather than a disability.

You can access further information about the campaign, and sign up for newsletter updates, on our blogsite at http://www.dyslexia-gift.org.uk

If you are a UK resident or ex-pat British citizen, you can sign the petition at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk

Please help us publicise the campaign by telling everyone you know, and by passing the word around any other relevant networking groups you subscribe to.

    Our sincerest thanks,

    Tatjana Lavrova
